Bolivia severs ties with Israel over war in the Gaza Strip, as Columbia and Chile recall ambassadors
Diplomatic relations between Israel and a spate of South American countries have frosted or severed, amid its ongoing military campaign in the Gaza Strip.
Bolivia has already severed diplomatic relations with Israel, between 2009 and 2020. This was also due to its military actions, which killed thousands in Gaza Strip. International opinion is divided on the military campaign that Israel Defense Forces conducted in retaliation for the terror attacks committed by Hamas Oct. 7. Humanitarian assistance has started to trickle into Gaza. A first group of civilians, including dual-nationals and foreigners, is set to cross the Rafah crossing on Wednesday to advance to Egypt. He warned against any casualty numbers coming out of Gaza, which CNBC couldn't independently verify. "I haven't seen confirmed figures of any civilian casualties," he said. Hamas' Gaza health ministry said on Wednesday that over 8,500 people had been killed in Gaza between Oct. 7 and today, with more than 3200 being children. As Gaza's borders are closed, no independent body can enter to verify the number of casualties.
