House to vote on Mike Johnson for speaker, fourth Republican nominee
Johnson won the nomination Tuesday with the support of 128 Republicans, far short of the 217 GOP votes he needs to win the speakership on the House floor.

Johnson's views, on the contrary, are closer to the base of the party. Without a speaker in the House, it is impossible to pass any spending legislation. The clock is ticking towards a deadline of Nov. 17, which would prevent a shutdown. Johnson has previously voted against Ukraine's aid. Please check back often for updates.
