Yuko Yamamoto was the original owner of Salon Glitter. Yamamoto and Shirokane are the owners of Walea by Salon Glitter. Shirokane worked with Yamamoto about 10 years prior to becoming the co-owner.
Shirokane stated, "We were looking for a place that would attract a different kind of clientele." "So, that's why Ward was on our radar because we wanted more luxury personal services."
Shirokane stated that the salon will add five new employees to its current 11 staff. She said that three of the new employees are receptionists, and two are massage therapy.
She noted that while the previous location was geared mostly towards women, the new one will be able to serve everyone.
She said, "We wanted to be inclusive of all genders. That's why we expanded and found a new location." "We want to show that men too can get manicures, as they do," she said. "It's very popular."
Ward Village is an integrated development with housing and retail. Six residential buildings are now complete in the area: Waiea Anaha Aeo Ke Kilohana Aalii Koula. Howard Hughes Corp. has reported that it invested over $2.4 billion into its Honolulu development.
