Vegan and Vegetarian Diets Reduce Health Risks, Study Shows #

Eating a vegan, vegetarian, or lacto-ovo vegetarian diet could significantly reduce the risk of developing cancer, heart disease, and premature death from cardiovascular disease, according to a recent analysis of more than 20 years of research. The analysis, known as an umbrella review, provides a high-level view of existing studies on the topic. In addition to lowering cardiovascular risk factors, the diets were found to have a “protective effect” against specific cancers. However, the study authors emphasized that poor dietary choices, such as consuming unhealthy plant foods like fruit juices and refined grains, could counteract the benefits of a plant-based diet. It is recommended to make healthy dietary choices when following these diets.
