The US Food and Drug Administration is expected to approve updated Covid-19 vaccines from Moderna and Pfizer/BioNTech targeting more recent strains of the virus. The vaccines are designed to combat a strain called KP.2, while Novavax’s updated shot targets the JN.1 strain. The FDA’s approval is anticipated to come earlier than last year’s version, which was approved in September. The approval is aimed to address the surge in cases as the country experiences its largest summer wave in two years. Experts recommend getting the vaccine as soon as possible.
