Mediterranean diet found to improve children's heart health, according to new study
Children’s Heart Health Benefits of Mediterranean Diet #
An analysis of nine studies with 577 participants aged 3 to 18 found that following the Mediterranean diet for at least eight weeks has a significant association with lowering blood pressure and total cholesterol. The research supports the idea that healthy dietary habits in childhood can prevent cardiovascular diseases and metabolic disorders. Experts recommend promoting a diet rich in whole foods and healthy fats for optimal children’s health. The Mediterranean diet emphasizes plant-based cooking and includes fruits, vegetables, lean meats, fish, whole grains, beans, seeds, and nuts. It is important to decrease highly processed foods and incorporate age-appropriate dietary plans. Regular family meals and structured snacks are also recommended. Future research should include larger sample sizes and more diverse populations to assess the long-term effects of the Mediterranean diet on children’s heart health.
