This city is developing the world's tallest timber tower, again
Timber is gaining popularity in urban architecture. A Vancouver-based architecture firm, Michael Green Architects (MGA), has unveiled plans for a 55-story timber skyscraper in Milwaukee. The proposed tower, part of the redevelopment of the Marcus Performing Arts Center, aims to set a new global benchmark for mass timber construction. The project is currently undergoing approval and is estimated to cost $700 million. The use of timber in skyscrapers is driven by the need for more sustainable building materials due to the environmental impact of concrete and steel. Despite challenges in sourcing sustainable timber, the cost competitiveness of mass timber and evolving building codes have contributed to its increasing popularity.
