UPMC will remove its universal masking requirements on Monday, which have been in place ever since the Covid-19 pandemic began in early 2020.
A spokesperson for UPMC confirmed that the policy will apply to most hospitals and facilities of UPMC, but not all.
She said that "(Masking will be required) in specific patient care area where patients are especially vulnerable to infection." As well as voluntary masking, other measures will be taken to reduce the spreading of Covid-19.
UPMC has become the latest health system in the country to remove the masking requirement as the federal health crisis expires. Allegheny Health Network is also one of those systems that removed the masking requirement.
